The Heart of the Problem

By Linda Tancs

Sometimes the heart of the problem is a problem with the heart. If a heart is full of evil, then evil will be spoken; out of an abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. (Luke 6:45). A hard heart dulls the mind (Mark 6:52), and a troubled heart has no peace (John 14:27). Do you have a “heart problem”? Let God be the strength of your heart (Psalm 73:26) and create it anew (Psalm 51:10).

Temple of the Spirit

By Linda Tancs

We are called to be temples of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Simply put, it means that God’s Spirit lives in you. A temple is a holy place. You would not desecrate a temple building; likewise, you should you not desecrate your own body, where God dwells. That includes your mind, will and emotions. Vigilance is key because the flesh and the Spirit are always in opposition (Galatians 5:17). Don’t hesitate to ask God to renew your spirit (Psalm 51:10).

Rinse and Repeat

By Linda Tancs

You can find biblical inspiration anywhere, even on a shampoo bottle. The instructions to “rinse and repeat” offer a reminder to put off the old nature so you can put on the new nature (Ephesians 4:22-24). Of course, Paul is talking about abandoning a sinful nature and adopting a new nature, one that incorporates a pure heart (Psalm 51:10). A pure heart clothes itself with a spirit of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience (Colossians 3:12-14).

You’ll likely need to renew your spirit over and over because the devil is always on the prowl, seeking to throw you off course (1 Peter 5:8). That’s when resentment, impatience, unkindness, arrogance and anger—the old nature—set in. So, like the instructions on a shampoo bottle, be sure to rinse off the old nature and repeat as necessary.
