Remember Yourself Forward

By Linda Tancs

A charismatic preacher exhorted his audience to “remember yourself forward.” That’s a great way of reminding folks that they’re overcomers: you overcame before, and you’ll overcome again. Jesus is the ultimate overcomer (John 16:33). There is no struggle, adversity or hardship that you can’t overcome because you’re more than a conqueror (Romans 8:37). You’ve had the victory before, and you’ll have it again (1 Corinthians 15:57). Just remember yourself forward.

The Biggest Loser

By Linda Tancs

The Biggest Loser was a popular reality show, tracking people as they lost enormous amounts of weight until one of them became “the biggest loser.” Unlike the positive outcome of that show, the devil would have you believe that you’re the biggest loser. He’d also like you to think of yourself as the weakest link, the title of another popular game show. The biggest loser. The weakest link. We all have our own version of negative self-talk. But it’s nothing but a lie from the pit of Hell, instigated by the father of lies (John 8:44). The devil comes only to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). Don’t take the bait. Focus on the positives (Philip 4:8). You’re more than a conqueror (Romans 8:37) and stronger than you know (Philippians 4:13).

More Than a Conqueror

By Linda Tancs

There’s no shortage of famous conquerors in world history, like Napoleon—renowned for his strategy and command of the battlefields of war (until Waterloo, that is). For most of us, there’s a different battle brewing. It’s in the mind, where nagging thoughts often plague and condemn us that we’re not where we need to be, not up to the task, not able to navigate life successfully, and so on. When the mind wages war we need to remember that we’re more than conquerors (Romans 8:37). What does it mean to be “more than a conqueror?” It means that, unlike Napoleon, there is no battle and, therefore, no need to conquer. We’ve already won. Through Christ, we are ready for anything and equal to anything that comes up in life (Philippians 4:13). Victory is assured; you needn’t worry about meeting your Waterloo.
