Do you remember the story of Joseph and Potiphar (Genesis 39:1-20)? Potiphar was a guard in Pharaoh’s house when Jacob’s son Joseph (he with the coat of many colors) was sold by his brothers to a caravan of Ishmaelites, who in turn sold him to Potiphar. Joseph prospered in his duties–that, is, until Potiphar’s wife tried to seduce him. He refused her advances in obedience to Potiphar, his master. Potiphar’s wife represents our temptations, those lures we know we need to resist. Do you resist them in obedience to your Master?
