The expression “white noise” refers to a background noise (like humming appliances or busy streets) that is meaningless or distracting. It’s all around us, yet some studies suggest that it harms the brain by hindering the perception of sound. You can bet that it also hinders our ability to experience the presence of God. That’s why it’s so important to be intentional about focusing on God and His ways (Psalm 119:15). Daily prayer or meditation is a good first step toward eliminating the white noise in your life, which could be just as much a relational matter as a mechanical one. Think about what “white noise” means to you. Can you eliminate or reduce its source?
